. in less than an hour oakland police and city officials are scheduled to address the recent rash of deadly violence in that city. alex savidge is live right now at city hall with what city leaders are expected to say. alex what are they expected to say? >> reporter: well, they are supposed to come up with some solutions some ways to try to curb the shootings. it was a particularly violent weekend in oakland. this announcement will involve both the mayor and police chief. again it will happen within the hour. the announcement will take place right at the spot where three-year-old carlos nava was killed back in 2001. you may remember this shooting. the young boy hit by a stray bullet and right now there is a mural that has been painted in that area in his honor. no one from oakland police or the mayor's office has culled me back. we do understand the focus will be on the four homicides in oakland this past friday and the 11 people wounded by gunfire over the weekend. just last night five people were shot at a birthday party. the surge in violence has led larry reid to be called as a state of

handa, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> we have developing news out of oakland, sheriff's deputies arrested three people after a chase and crash. sheriff's deputies were in pursuit of a white suv. the suv driver lost control and hit three other vehicles. several people were injured but the good news is nobody was sent to the hospital. authorities say three people were in the vehicle and they all fled. two were found. the reason for the chase has not been released. >>> train hit a pedestrian walking today in oakland. the 65-year-old man was struck and taken to the hospital but authorities haven't released his condition. the man was walking close to had tracks and when the train approach it clipped him. the train was boun for san jose. -- bound for san jose. it caused delays as officials investigated. >>> police are trying to locate a suspect in a robbery. investigators say he is still on the loose. they say he and three others were armed with guns when they robbed a store in may. one of the suspects was shot and killed during the robbery. he is from hayward but police say he may have ties to

:01. young child in oakland remains in critical condition after being hit by a car. it happened at 28th avenue and foothill boulevard about 5:30. police say it was not a hit and run. investigators want to know if the young boy ran out into traffic or if he was in the crosswalk. >>> new information this morning on boeing's troubled 787 dream liner. japanese investigator says excess voltage may be causing battery issues. the federal aviation administration grounded all of boeing 787 until they can prove the batteries are safe. that is after a dream liner had to make an emergency landing in japan after a battery light came on. and a battery fire was reported on another 787 in boston. >>> we are following developing news in an ongoing situation in algeria. where they took dozens of foreigners hostage including some americans. there is word this morning the algerian military has launched another raid on the complex to try to free the remaining hostages. it's believed as many as 35 people were killed in a raid by algerian troops yesterday. coming up at 5:15 why algeria says it could not warn

to be a lot of fun. >>> oakland mayor jean quan voice her support today for her police chief's controversial decision to solicit advice from bill bratton, former chief for both los angeles and new york city police departments and he supports so-called stop and frisk policies which some argue amount to racial profiling. today mayor quan sent an open letter to the city council which says in part, "we've been hearing worries bratton's past policies could be used in oakland in a way that contributes to racial profiling. racial profiling will not be tolerated in the oakland police department, period." oakland police chief howard jordan wants to pay bratton $250,000 to try to help solve the city's problem with violent crime. >>> the driver of a 30-foot big rig is recovering from moderate injuries tonight after an accident left his truck upside down in a ditch in petaluma this morning. the accident stopped traffic shortly after 9:00 on old adobe road near green stream farm. no other vehicles were involved and the cause is under investigation. the truck is registered to a paving company called north

of my battling a 2 alarm fire last night in a vacant oakland home. here is video from the scene. the fire for started around 5:00 p.m., and the 600 block of harrison street near oakland's chinatown neighborhood. when firefighters arrived they found two people on a neighboring roof, and it appeared that they had stayed there from the burning home. the two were detained by oakland police for questioning. authorities say that the building is a total loss. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. >> meanwhile, police are investigating a body that was found along the alameda shore line. authorities say a man was walking down a path at robert w. crowned memorial state beach and noticed a body or around 10:00 a.m. yesterday morning. alameda fire crews pulled on the man's body from the water near was blind and shoreline drives. he is believed to be 87 between 20 and 30 years old, he was fully close with no obvious sign of trauma. if police believe that the body had been in the water for about six hours. the alameda county coroner's office is working to identify the man. >> if

medical center in oakland declared a "code dry" for the building yesterday afternoon. the hospital halted almost all water use. during the time, all surgeries were on hold and no one could flush toilets or turn on any taps or drinking fountains. the problem: a plumbing failure. the "code dry" lasted for about four hours. repairs are under way at the oakland unified school district headquarters which got flooded. someone left a tap open in a custodian's closet all night. the water damaged every floor in the building. staff will work out of another building during the clean-up. >>> san jose investigators are looking into the cause of a garage fire in the city's alone in a park area. it was record about 7:30 last night at a home near taylor and 15th. neighbors thought someone was in the garage but that was not the case. no one was injured but the garage, three cars and a boat were destroyed. >>> the continental united states 2012 was the hottest year on record. that's according to the government's scientists. the average temperature, 55.3 degrees
